Monstro the Whale is the final antagonist in the movie Pinocchio. He is a vicious sperm whale who can swallow ships whole.
Biology[]
As his name indicates, Monstro is a fearsome creature, much larger than a regular sperm whale and bearing a broader mouth equipped with teeth on both jaws (whereas normal sperm whales only have teeth on their lower jaws). His underside bears resemblance to a baleen whale's. His interior is so spacious that people can actually live in it after being swallowed.
Appearances[]
- Pinocchio (1940)
Notes[]
- He is based on the Terrible Dogfish from The Adventures of Pinocchio, by Carlo Collodi.
- Interestingly, he bears some resemblance to the real life extinct genus of giant sperm whales known as Livyatan, which was only discovered 68 years after the film came out.
- In the 2022 live-action remake of Pinocchio, Monstro is described as a large sea monster with tentacles thus, was not exactly a whale.
