“ | This pig thing is still alive. It needs an operator, of course, but the mental feedback is so intense that somehow the swinish instinct has become dominant. It hates humanity and it revels in carnage. |

Mr. Sin, previously known as the Peking Homunculus, is a diminutive artificial humanoid created in the 51st century, who later became an associate of time-traveling war criminal Magnus Greel and his 19th century Chinese henchman Li H'sen Chang. His body is mostly a cybernetic creation, with a single organic component in the form of the cerebral cortex of a pig.
Biography[]
Around the year 5000, while the Earth was undergoing an ice age, the Homunculus was created in Peking as an exotic toy for the children of the Commissioner of the Icelandic Alliance. Its composition has been described as containing "a series of magnetic fields operating on a printed circuit and a small computer", and its only organic part was its brain cortex, which came from a pig. Despite that, the Homunculus proved itself an intelligent, cunning creature. When something inside its circuits started to malfunction, the pig mind took over, and the rogue Homunculus came to harbor a deep hatred for mankind and developed a sadistic lust for carnage and brutal slaughter. According to the Doctor, it almost caused World War Six, but mysteriously disappeared from history as it traveled back in time with Magnus Greel and became one of his servants, working as an assassin for the Tong of the Black Scorpion while disguised as a ventriloquist dummy that Chang could use in his stage acts.
Appearances[]
- Doctor Who, season 14, "The Talons of Weng-Chiang" (1977)
Notes[]
- The name "Mr. Sin" may have been used by Chang to make the creature appear like a typical ventriloquist's dummy, but it seems that the name was actually given to the Homunculus by Greel himself, as he consistently addresses him as "Sin" as if that was his real name.
- Although the Doctor claimed that the only organic component of Mr. Sin's body is his cerebral cortex (which came from a pig), the Homunculus has been observed bleeding from his arm, suggesting that he has at least something that looks like organic blood running inside his veins.
