A Murciélago; known to German speakers as a Geölterblitz; is a humanoid bat-like Wesen species originating from South America; which kills its victims with sonic attacks.

Biology[]

Like all Wesen, Murciélagos are liminal beings who spend the majority of their time in human form, but are capable of woging (i.e. shifting into their monstrous form) either voluntarily or involuntarily; though the involuntary woge is usually only visible to a Grimm.

In their woged state, Murciélagos are wingless bat-like humanoids. They have wrinkled skin, large ears, sharp teeth, and red eyes. They have no hair on their faces, not even eyebrows; and the hair on their scalps appear to be always dark, even in individuals that are blond-haired in their human form. Their hands have long, clawed fingers, united by a leathery membrane, similar to that of a bat's wings. There is little to no variation in skin color with a male who had an african-american human form having largely the same coloration as a female with a caucasian human form

Members of this species are most well-known for their ability to generate directed untrasonic sound waves, which can be strong enough to shatter glass and kill their victims in an extremely gruesome manner: causing the eardrums, eyes, nasal passages, and even the bowels to violently explode. Murciélagos are not immune to their own powers, and can kill each other the same way that they would kill any other victim.

According to the writings of Jose María Lopez Diego y Grimm, the sonokinetic attacks of a Murciélago can be countered with an instrument known as a "Murciélago Matraca", which generates similar sound waves that leave the Murciélago incapacitated. The two sound waves are similar enough that humans are unable to differentiate them.
