This is an unnamed species of giant mutant cockroaches which originated in the vicinity of the small town of Mount View, California. Their mutation is believed to have resulted from chemical pesticides affecting normal roaches of the genus Blattella. Unlike regular cockroaches, they go through a parasitoid larval stage and are ruled by a human-sized queen.
Biology[]
These mutant cockroaches are amphibious and prefer dark, damp environments; displaying an aversion to sunlight. They lay eggs inside hosts, which can be human or animal, including fish from the local lake. Strangely, their larvae physically resemble a type of giant millipede, rather than a typical insect larva. As they mature, they eventually dissolve the flesh of the host and emerge, leading to an incredibly gruesome death.
According to a genetic analysis by Dr. Fujimoto, the mutant cockroaches derive from the genus Blattella, but constitute a new species of their own. His analysis also concluded that the creatures are warm-blooded, nocturnal and toxic. After emerging from their host, some individuals eventually cocoon themselves and grow to phenomenal proportions. The so-called Mother Bug is a man-sized and extremely aggressive beast which has made her nest inside an abandoned mine by the lake. Despite her size, she is fully capable of flight.
