Works featuring Neanderthals[]
- Neanderthals are one of the innumerable Earth species to have been transported to Venus in The Sky People (S.M. Stirling, 2006). They are depicted as a semi-sapient race with a language of grunts and gestures, possessing a human-like potential for tool use, but little in the way of complex practices or abstract thought. Soviets, Americans, and indigenous Venusians all mention them by dehumanizing terms. In 1962, the Cave Master used one Neanderthal tribe to spearhead a genocide of the Cloud Mountain People, coinciding with the arrival of a USSR probe. Its surface footage proved to all Earth that Venus wasn't just habitable, it was inhabited, and by humans at that.
