Nykoraptors are a predatory species of cursorial theropods which lived about 85 million years ago.

Biology[]

Anatomy[]

Nykoraptors are medium-sized theropods, belonging to the group Dromeposauridae after studies of the skull confirmed this, alongside the revelation of the group's signature "sickle claw" on the feet. They have a covering of brownish feathers along their body for insulation, but more prominent feathers had been discovered along its arms, head, and tail. They do however possess three sets of teeth within their jaws, most likely adapted to capture small animals more efficiently. Another unique feature is the hook-like spike on the tip of its tail. Some hypothesis suggest this is used as a prehensile tail, but further studies have yet to confirm this.

Behavior[]

These creatures are most likely opportunistic predators: having the capability to both hunt their own prey along with scavenging on carcasses left by larger predators. As a smaller carnivore compared to others in its home habitat, it is capable of climbing up trees as a means of evading larger predators. Their hunting behavior seems to vary a bit as studies of the fossils continue: some suggest it as a solitary hunter whereas other finding suggest sociable behavior from hunting in pairs to full on family groups.
