Octillery is a Water-type Pokémon species originally identified in the Johto region. Its juvenile stage is known as Remoraid. Unusually, compared to most (non bug-type) Pokémon, Remoraid and Octillery are radically different in terms of general morphology, with the former being fish-like and the latter closely resembling an octopus.
Additionally, Remoraid is also notable for its close symbiotic relationship with Mantine, and its presence is in fact instrumental for the latter's own immature stage, Mantyke, to evolve into mature Mantine.
Wild populations of this species can be found in the seas around Johto, Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos, and Alola.
Biology[]
Octillery is a benthonic sea Pokémon, although it has been shown to survive just as well on land. Its appearance is similar to a red octopus, with eight tentacular limbs and a round head. Unlike an octopus, however, its mouth is tubular and located on the head, rather than beneath its body, hidden amidst the tentacles. Its eyes also closely resemble human eyes, with white sclerae and comparatively small pupils.
Octillery's tentacles are equipped with suction cups, which allow it to grip to the substrate, and also to hold onto prey while hitting it with its rock-hard head. Female's suction cups are smaller. It instinctively seeks out holes as shelter, and isn't above stealing the nest of other members of its species to sleep. Its signature Octazooka attack consists of shooting jets of ink at its opponents. The ink is also used when Octillery needs to escape from predators, as it contains substances that dull the sense of smell to further prevent the predator from following it. Curiously, this ink can also be used by humans in culinary.
Remoraid[]

Octillery's juvenile stage is a grey, medium-sized fish-like creature, and is known for its ability to shoot extremely precise jets of water, which can hit targets over 100 meters away. It uses this ability to hunt airborne prey, such as insects, and may also use it underwater as a jet propulsion system to escape predators by swimming backwards, much like a squid.
Remoraid is commonly found in close association with Mantine, although it's also known to travel in swarms of its own species. Its dorsal fin can double as a suction pad to cling to Mantine's underside and feed on its leftovers. If the Mantine is attacked, Remoraid will fight along to protect it.
