Otter Penguins; generally just called Penguins; are a species of avimammalian bipeds which inhabit the frigid southern seas and feed on small fish.
Biology[]
Like their name indicates, Otter Penguins combine aspects of mammals and birds, but unlike most vertebrates, they also possess six limbs. Specifically: they have one pair of bird-like legs and two pairs of flippers for swimming. Their feet have four digits: three on the front and one on the back. They have otter-like flattened tails and whiskers. Like penguins, they live in large aggregations.
Otter Penguins are black and white in coloration. Like many aquatic creatures, they have a dark backside and a white underside which presumably aids in camouflage while swimming (hiding them amidst the light when seen from below, and in the darkness when seen from above).
They rival in size with the largest emperor penguins, being big enough to allow young humans to ride on their backs while they slide down snow-covered slopes. Using penguins as sleds in this fashion is a form of entertainment for children of the Southern Water Tribe, and the animals don't seem to be significantly bothered by this, simply shrugging off and walking away afterwards to return to their colonies. Despite being docile, they're not easy to capture unless one uses fish to attract them.
