Poseidon; known to the Romans as Neptune; is the Olympian god of the seas, who rules over the world's oceans, just like his brothers, Zeus and Hades, have mastery over the skies and the underworld, respectively. Together, these three gods were responsible for imprisoning the Titans and putting an end to their domain.
Poseidon is typically represented wielding a trident, and was revered by Greek sailors; acting as a protector figure, but also a source of catastrophes if angered. Like Zeus, he was involved in numerous love affairs and had a large number of children, which notably include the sea god Triton, the hero Theseus, the cyclops Polyphemus, and the winged horse Pegasus.
