Ribombee is a Bug/Fairy-type Pokémon species first identified in the Alolan archipelago. Its juvenile stage is known as Cutiefly.

Biology[]

Ribombee is a 20 cm-tall humanoid insect with large eyes, short moth-style antennae and a couple of partially transparent wings. Despite its insectile nature, it only has four limbs: one pair of arms and one of legs; the latter appearing to protrude from its abdomen rather than thorax. Its overall appearance is very similar to the popular idea of a fairy. This Pokémon is usually light yellow in color. In contrast, the rare shiny variant is light pink.

Ribombee and Cutiefly are pollinators and only visit the fields when the weather is clear, as rain causes the pollen to become damp. As such, they prefer to find hollow trees to hide themselves during the rain. They can use wind directions and moisture levels to predict the weather patterns for days to come.

Ribombee is well-known for rolling pollen into Pollen Puffs, which exist in many varieties, some usable to attack in battle and some with more nutritional value. The latter are occasionally sold as supplements in Alolan markets. Its signature Pollen Puff move can just as easily deal damage to opponents as it can be used to restore the health of an ally.

Cutiefly[]

Cutiefly

Ribombee starts life as Cutiefly, a small insect Pokémon which, like its evolution, only has four limbs and two wings. Unlike Ribombee, though, Cutiefly appears to lack any kind of segmentation and its mouth is short and tubular.

This Pokémon has the very useful ability to detect the aura of living things, and uses this to identify which flowers are about to bloom. It may also use this ability to anticipate an opponent's moves in battle. If a person's aura is found to be similar to a flower's aura, numerous Cutieflies will tend to gather around the head of this sweet person.

In flower fields, Cutiefly can often skirmish with Butterfree over food.
