This unidentified sea serpent is a large and vicious eel-like creature with tentacles, which is attracted by the scent of raw meat and is known to attack ships and prey upon humans.
Biology[]
The sea serpent is an elongated eel-like monster, covered in smooth slimy skin, and estimated to weight a hundred tons. Its tail is described as "a broad, flat-shaped mass". In spite of its size, it is capable of leaving the ocean and crawling onto the decks of ships to forage for food. It has a wide mouth that is equipped with both fangs and claw-armed tentacles, and is large enough to swallow humans with ease. The first description by Thompson suggests that "there are no eyes visible", but a later description includes a pair of "little pig-eyes, that seem to twinkle with a diabolical intelligence". Its tentacles possess claws that are similar to a lobster's chelae.
