The Silver Hydra is a large cockroach/spider/beetle/fly hybrid.

The Silver Hydra is actually composed of hundreds of smaller beings. They cocoon living victims in silver, gradually transforming them into smaller silver hydras. Freezing temperatures cause it to harden. Lasers have also proven effective against it.
