The Acceraptor ("Slashing Thief") is a large, highly dangerous theropod predator.

Biology[]

Anatomy[]

Acceraptors, despite the name suggesting such, aren't related to the Dromeosaurs but instead seem to be decedents to South American Tyrannosauroids. This is suggested since it lacks the signature arm feathers or sickle claw that signifies the family group. They do however possess thin feathers along the tail and head. The tail itself is lined with blade-like protrusions, and noting the extraordinary flexibility of the tail bones suggest its use as a weapon. The blades on their tails are as thick and sharp as modern-day knives, capable of causing deep wounds when slashed at opponents.

Males of the species are notably more vibrant in coloration than females, which suggests a common form of sexual dimorphism in the species. Other details include blue tongues (according to some accounts), three-fingered claws on both their hands and feet, and vibrant colored head crests on the males.

Behavior[]

Acceraptors are nocturnal pack hunters. They are usually dormant during the day and more active during the night, filling in the same niche more commonly filled in by predatory raptors found in other parts of the world. They're often found in mated pairs, and will compete with other members or even other species for territorial rights.

Notes[]

  • Acceraptors shown in Terra Nova are somewhat resilient to gun fire.
  • They are susceptible to Heart Lesions.
