Sothoryi Lizards are a species of carnivorous bipedal reptiles native to the southern jungles of Green Hell, Sothoryos.
Overview[]
Described by Westerosi maesters, their skins were covered with tattoos and would use their sharp talons in their feet to slaughter their prey.
While it has no appearances in A Song of Ice and Fire series, it was indirectly mentioned by Syrio Forel, along with other exotic animals while Syrio tells Arya Stark about the Sealord of Braavos' private zoo in A Game of Thrones.
In A Dance with Dragons, Victarion Greyjoy wonders if the rumors of Daenerys Targaryen and her dragons are real, or if only they are a number of tattooed lizards living in Sothoryos.
Notes[]
- Their descriptions were mostly similar to a dromeosaur (a family of Velociraptor and Deinonychus). Dinosaur means "terrible lizard", Dromeosaurid means "running lizard" and they have large scythe like claws on their hind legs. However, they do lack the extensive plumage and wings such dinosaurs which would have made them resemble birds in life.
- Author George R.R. Martin enjoyed the 1990 novel of Jurassic Park, which popularized the raptors as vicious killers.
