The Spitting Toad is an extremophile amphibian indigenous to the lava floes found the kingdom of Uruk. They are related to the Small Frog and the Squirt, although the lower sections of its body below the neck are not recorded. They are gluttonous to a fault. They notably have long, forked tongues more similar to a snake or lizard, despite being amphibians.
The so called "Spitting Toad" gets its name from its tendency to swallow first, think later. Anything that is not to the Toad's rather picky taste is spit out quite forcefully.
A member of this creature's species was first encountered by Sphinx within the kingdom of Uruk while he and Horus sought to stop Set. While Horus could simply leap to his destination, Sphinx needed to find another route, and this led to him getting a little too close to a Spitting Toad, which at first tried to eat him. Luckily for him and the world at large however, he was not something the Spitting Toad considers tasty and it apologized, offering to spit him to higher reaches to catch up to his partner and enter the castle.
Although Capture Beetles are unable to survive in lava and therefore are impossible to capture by this conventional method, even for the resourceful Sphinx, he is relieved to see that the Abydosian Museum already has one on display upon his arrival.
