Stygimoloch is one of the several dinosaur species which have been recreated from genetic samples by InGen, with the gaps filled with genes from modern animals, resulting in a creature significantly different from its prehistoric counterpart.
Biology[]
Stygimoloch is a medium-sized bipedal herbivore known for its thick armored cranium. It overall resembles a smaller version of Pachycephalosaurus. Its head is so tough that it can ram into a wall and break through it, without hurting itself.
History[]
At least one member of this species was saved from extinction when Mount Sibo (the volcano of Isla Nublar) erupted, destroying the island and every animal in it. This specimen was captured by mercenaries to be illegally auctioned, along with many other dinosaurs and pterosaurs. However, she managed to escape alongside Owen Grady and Claire Dearing, who had been imprisoned in a cell next to hers. After saving Owen and Claire, the Stygimoloch was set loose at the auction and attacked several people. She ended up being set free and continues to roam in the United States mainland along with the other surviving species.
Appearances[]
- Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018)
- Jurassic Word: Dominion (2022)
Notes[]
- In real life, paleontologist Jack Horner (who acts as scientific consultant for the Jurassic Park franchise and actually inspired the character of Alan Grant) has argued that Stygimoloch is not a valid dinosaur genus, and merely represents a younger form of Pachycephalosaurus. For this reason, Horner spoke against the inclusion of this animal in the film, but the producers decided to keep it anyway.
