Sweyn Bettercnut was a Danish archimage and the bastard grandson of the historical Cnut the Great, who lived in the 11th century.
As a student of the occult, Bettercnut discovered magical incantations which could be used to summon small demons who would grant wishes. According to his descendant, George Bitternut, he mostly asked the demons to make young women behave in a more cooperative manner when in his company. His spells were written in a book in the old Anglo-Saxon language and later inherited by George, who managed to learn one of them, used to summon the being that George nicknamed Azazel.
