The Swooping Evil is a magical beast that appears in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Overview[]
When transformed, it takes the form of a flying butterfly-like creature with spiky wings and a strangely mammalian skull for a head. When at rest, it typically wraps itself up as a cocoon-like structure, and is also capable of extending long, powerful vine-like tentacles in order to immobilize prey. A seemingly common habit among wizards is to carry one around and unleash in a yo-yo like fashion.
The Swooping Evil feeds on the brain of its victims, and produces a toxin which, when properly diluted, can be used as a specific form of amnestic, capable of erasing bad memories.

Notes[]
- The creature's appearance is based on a manta ray, while its movements were based on bats and birds[1]
