I forced myself to look again—and from their gaze streamed a current of reassurance, of good will—nay, of intense spiritual strength. I saw that they were not fierce, not ruthless, not inhuman, despite their strangeness; no, they were kindly; in some unmistakable way, benign and sorrowful—so sorrowful!

The Taithu, a.k.a. the Silent Ones, are a mysterious species present in the subterranean realm of Muria, although they evolved many aeons ago in a much deeper place, close to the very core of the Earth, in an environment nourished by the energy of the heart of the planet just like the surface world uses energy from the sun for its ecology.

The Taithu that left their underground world are believed to have settled on Ireland and became the Tuatha Dé Danann of myth.

Biology[]

Silent Ones are human-looking enough that individuals are recognizably male or female. Their morphology seems to combine traits of birds and reptiles. Their skin is pale. Their heads are twice the size of a Human head. They have hooked noses, pointed chins, a vertical ridge on their foreheads, and a dome of yellow feathered scales covering their scalps. Their eyes are triangular, thrice the size of a Human eye, and entirely black with "leaping red flames" inside rather than pupils. Their hands are elongated, consisting of six fingers and no thumb.

The Taithu are benevolent creatures and have extraordinary abilities, including telepathy and even the power to revive the dead.
