Thipdars, a.k.a. Pteranodon, are a large species of carnivorous pterosaurs which inhabit the Earth's inner world known as Pellucidar. They are domesticated by the sapient Mahars, who employ them as guard animals.
Biology[]
Thipdars are enormous, draconic creatures which measure about 40 ft in body length (~ 12 meters) and have a 30 ft wingspan (~ 9 meters).
Unlike their Mesozoic counterparts, the Thipdars of Pellucidar have mouths filled with sharp teeth and talons on their feet, and are capable of easily lifting human-sized prey off the ground and flying to their mountainous nests while carrying their unfortunate victims.
Wild Thipdars lay eggs in nests amidst mountainous peaks and practice parental care by bringing food to their offspring. They make hissing vocalizations. The Gilaks of Pellucidar regard Thipdars as extraordinarily dangerous creatures, for a Thipdar's brain is small and they have a reputation for attacking anything that moves and persisting in their attacks until either prey or predator is killed.
