Universe Caltiki - The Immortal Monster
You can believe what you like. Caltiki's been reborn.
— Dr. John Fielding

These unnamed creatures consist of huge unicellular blobs which can quickly dissolve and consume flesh, leaving only bones and straps of mummified tissues behind. They were discovered guarding a temple of the ancient Mayan goddess Caltiki, in the region of Tikal, Guatemala.

Amazingly, a scientific dating of a sample revealed that a single individual of this species had been alive for over twenty million years, suggesting that they are biologically immortal.

Biology[]

These amorphous globs are able to operate just as well on land as in water. They are hard to kill and strong enough to break through a locked door. However, they are vulnerable to fire.

They are known to attack victims and quickly consume their flesh, although exactly how they do it is not specified. They leave behind bones and mummified remains, suggesting that they partially dissolve tissues and partially drain them of water. It has also been said that the damage they do is the result of a toxin that the creature injects in its prey, and that even if one survives the attack, the poison will eventually reach the brain, leading to insanity.

Strangely, the blobs are known to grow and develop quickly whenever they are exposed to radioactivity. Under these circumstances, a small piece taken from one of them can easily revive and regenerate into a full-grown organism, capable of reproducing asexually by means of binary fission. It is further found out that every 1352 years, a highly radioactive comet passes extremely close to Earth's atmosphere, resulting in an explosive growth of such creatures. It is suggested that the last passage of the comet in 607 A.D. may have ultimately resulted in the vast migration of the Mayan people away from the Tikal area, as they abandoned their old cities and temples due to the sudden emergence of these flesh-eating beasts.
