The Titans are a conglomerate of primordial god-like beasts that predate humanity by millions of years. They are the titular main characters of the MonsterVerse.

They are ancient gigantic creatures of extreme powers that originated from the Hollow Earth. Monarch studies beliebes that they come in two different categories; Protectores who are famously known for fighting against malevolent threats in order to protect and save the earth, and Destroyers, who seek to distroy or conquer the planet and claim it as their own. There are even ancient human civilizations that coexisted with them thousands of years ago.

Background[]

Name[]

M.U.T.O. is an acronym for "Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organism," a catch-all term used by Monarch to designate superspecies before they are given proper identification. Superspecies are anomalous, often gigantic fauna and flora that usually have origins in the Hollow Earth. If a creature is discovered to share close ancestry with any currently known species, it may be exempt from the superspecies classification and thus not considered a M.U.T.O., such as Shocker Squids sharing a close relation to Humboldt squids. Once a superspecies is appropriately identified, the term M.U.T.O. is no longer applied to them.

Beyond M.U.T.O. exists another classification referred to as "Titan". While there are no strict size or ability requirements for a M.U.T.O. to be considered a Titan, Monarch instead determines Titan status based on resilience, travel range, and durability to conventional weaponry. Once a M.U.T.O. has been identified and determined to be of Titan status, the indicatory title of Titanus is attached to the species' name, which is often inspired by a mythological figure, and the term M.U.T.O. no longer applies. Despite this, as of the events of Godzilla vs. Kong, for unknown reasons, Monarch continues to refer to members of the Titanus Jinshin-Mushi superspecies, who are considered Titans, as M.U.T.O.s (often shortened to simply "MUTOs").

In some very rare cases, Titan status may only apply to one individual creature rather than the entire species. Snarehunter Queens, for example, are considered Titans by Monarch while smaller castes of the same species are not. Interestingly, Snarehunter Queens lack an official Titanus title despite being considered as Titans.

Behavior[]

The Titans operate in a form of hierarchy, with the most powerful among them being referred to as the Alpha Titan, regardless of species. The Alpha Titan rank is earned through combat and any Titan possesses the potential to become an alpha if they are willing to challenge one that is already present. A battle between an alpha and a challenger ends with the loser either submitting or being killed. Godzilla, for example, regained his position as the Alpha Titan after killing Ghidorah. The victor wins the allegiance of almost all Titans, although rebellious Titans and rival alphas will refuse to submit, such as Godzilla and Ghidorah refusing to submit to each other throughout their history, or Kong refusing to submit to either of them. The alpha possesses the power to command all the allied Titans, who will follow through with these commands, regardless of whether they are for benevolent or malevolent intents. The alpha is able to send subservient Titans into dormancy, as Godzilla did in Godzilla Dominion, or on destructive rampages as Ghidorah did in Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

Biology[]

All Titans (execpt Ghidorah) originates from the Hollow Earth, a whole ecosystemthat exists inside the planet itself. There are many species of titan, all identified by being impossibly large animalistic creatures. They both feed off of and emit radiation. At some point long ago, all Titans lived in Earth's surface that was full of radiation in the time, an ancient human civilization known as Iwi lived there and coexisted with the Titans, seeing them as deities to be worshipped, among them the Titanus Gojiras (dinosaur-like Titans), their symbiotic partners Titanus Mosura (moth-like Titans) and Titanus Kongs (ape-like Titans). The Iwi saw Titanus Gojira as the Guardians of nature, while the great apes specifically became the protectors of humanity. Additionally a Titanus Mosura that possessesa strong symbiotic relationship with the Gojira, became known as the protector of the Iwi.

At some point, Godzilla, along with Mothra, fought off a Titan of an invasive species, a three-headed dragonic alien that came from space, Ghidorah. they came to Earth to take over the planet and take the title of Alpha, though Godzilla defended his title many times in the past before a day that they fought in Antarctica. godzilla prevailed by imprisoning Ghidorah in ice presumably with the help of the ancient Titan Shimo.

Later on, a red-furred great ape Titan known as Skar King started a war between his kind and the Titanus Gojiras with an attempt to take over the world's surface with the help of Shimo, who was enslaved by him through a crystal at the tip of his spinal whipslash. The war finally ended with one of the Gojiras (likely Godzilla) trapping the tyrent and his followers deep underground. Both sides had many deaths, which heavily weakened the two species.

A long time after the war, the Titanus Kongs and Gojiras became weakened and lowered in numbers. As time goes on, the kong moved started living in a tropical skull-shaped island that had a connection to the Hollow Earth. At some piont later on, new ever-hungry creatures known as Skullcrawlers moved to skull Island and started overwhelming the Kongs due to their absured numbers. Meanwhile, the Gojiras became prey to a parasitic species of Titans, the Titanus Jinshin Mushis. After the females go through s special metamorphosis, they evolve into MUTO Primes, Titans powerful enough to hunt down and use Gojiras to nests their spread over even more. Which brought both species to almost extinction.

Notes[]

  • Monarch classes titans under the genus "Titanus", however this is problematic since "Titanus" is in use for the scientific name of the titan beetle, Titanus giganteus, not to mention many species realistically belong to different classes: Godzilla (reptile), King Kong (mammal), Mothra (insect). Not to mention mammals and reptiles both belong to the phylum "Chordata" (subphylum: Vertebrata) while insects belong to the phylum "Arthropoda" (subphylum: Hexapoda).
    • Furthermore, these terms allegedly just refer to the specimens themselves, which makes even less sense since scientific names are supposed to refer to a species as a whole.
