The Tree Drummer (Proboscisuncus sp.) is a specialized insectivorous mammal, a descendant of the shrews family, which inhabits the deciduous forests of Earth about 50 million years in the future.
This arboreal creature lives a lifestyle similar in some ways to that of a woodpecker or a modern aye-aye. It possesses a pair of long, chisel-like incisor teeth with which it breaks through the tree bark in order to feed on grubs and insects. To grab its prey the Tree Drummer uses its long, worm-like proboscis with a barbed tip. Its paws are covered in sensitive bristles, which are used to detect movement under the tree bark, allowing the Tree Drummer to properly locate its prey.
