The Tusked Mole (Scalprodens talpiforme) is a small burrowing mammal which inhabits woodland areas on Earth about 50 million years in the future.
Its body superficially resembles a modern-day mole; being indeed a relative, if not a direct descendant of them. However, this species possesses a pair of tusks as well as a long, paddle-shaped tail. It has a curious way of moving around in its tunnels, as it rotates its body while digging, breaking the soil apart with its tusks, pushing it backwards with its paws and compacting it into the tunnel walls with its tail.
Besides feeding on underground invertebrates like a modern mole, the Tusked Mole is also an ambush predator of surface-dwelling creatures such as insects, mice, voles and lizards. It will jump out of the ground using its tail as a lever and impale unsuspecting prey with its tusks.
