Venusaur is a Grass/Poison-type Pokémon species originally identified in the Kanto region. It has a juvenile stage called Bulbasaur and an intermediary stage called Ivysaur.

Biology[]

Members of this species are stout quadrupedal creatures which combine reptilian, anuran, and vegetable features. They have greenish-blue skin, three-toed feet, triangular ears, large red eyes, white fangs, and a large vegetable formation on their backs, which appears as a bulb in the Bulbasaur stage, and blooms into a flower in its evolved stages. Fully-evolved females have a seed in their flower. This species has a gender ratio of seven males to one female.

The vegetable formation performs photosynthesis, and contains nutritional seeds, providing nutrients and energy for the Pokémon. Extendable vines are hidden beneath this structure and can be used to attack, manipulate objects, or for more friendly purposes such as lulling a baby Pokémon to sleep. Members of this species are generally very friendly, loyal and compassionate; which makes them ideal caretakers and mediators in Pokémon disputes. The flower of the latter stages produces a soothing aroma.

Little is known about their social habits in nature, but a ritual has been observed in which hundreds of Bulbasaur come together to evolve into Ivysaur, in a ceremony led by a Venusaur.

When exposed to Venusaurite, it will temporarily transform into Mega Venusaur.

Some fully-evolved members of this species are capable of temporarily assuming a Gigantamax form when they Dynamax.

Notes[]

  • Contrary to popular belief, the extinct dicynodont genus Bulbasaurus (discovered in 2017) was not named after Bulbasaur.
