The Watchers were the first race of angels in Mike Mignola's Hellboy-comics, who created the Ogdru Jahad.
History[]
In the beginning God created the Watchers to look over the young Earth, but one of them, Anum, decided to steal some of the Creator's powers (magical fire called Vril) in order to create life. Anum and the others created a massive creature called Ogdru Jahad, who in turn spawned the Ogdru Hem, the first organisms of Earth. These new beings were bent on destruction and they battles with the Watcher-angels, imprisoning the eldritch abominations.
After the battle the other Watchers turn on Anum and destroyed him, leaving only his right hand behind, which could be used to summon the Ogdru Jahad back to Earth. God was angered by all this and banished the Watchers into the pit, which would eventually be known as Hell.
In Hell the watchers were led Pluto, who would be known to Greeks and Romans as the god of the Underworld, until the arrival of the second wave of fallen angels, known as demons.
These demons were led by Satan, who either killed or enslaved all Watchers, forcing them to built Hell's new capital, Pandemonium, which they would hold up on their broken backs.
