Weta-Rexes (Deinacrida rex, "Terrible Grasshopper King") are large insects that lived in the gorges of Skull Island
Overview[]
Weta-Rexes are related to the wetas of distant New Zealand, an ocean away, were huge prehistoric crickets that vastly outsized their antipodean cousins. Appropriately dubbed Weta-Rexes, they were not shy herbivores but ferocious, pack-hunting predators of the caves and chasms of Skull Island. Growing to be 2 to 3 feet long, they swarmed in huge numbers, and would overwhelm and wear down any prey they came across, shredding even the largest dinosaurs with a thousand pairs of shearing mouthparts. A Weta-Rex attacks by biting. They tend to spring along, and can move quickly for their size. Capable of climbing the chasm walls with ease, they have been known to drop down on foes.
Notes[]
- The Weta-Rex was created as a nod to the visual effects company Weta Digital and design company Weta Workshop.
