Wun Weg Wun Dar Wun or Wun Wun is one of the only named giants that appeared in an A Song of Ice and Fire and Game of Thrones series.
Overview[]
Hailing from the far northern part of Westeros, Wun Wun was along with many wildlings of Hardhome to evacuate from the incoming wight invasion. During the attack, Wun Wun viciously fought the wights but forced to retreat when tiring and almost weakened. Wun Wun soon joined Jon Snow and the company after going back to the wall.
Following the mutiny against Jon, Wun Wun assists Eddison Tollet and Tormund Giantsbane in storming Castle Black and saving Jon's corpse from the mutineers.
After Jon's revival, Wun Wun agreed to fight against the Boltons, Umbers, and Karstarks for him. Along with the free folk, Wun Wun joined forces with the Mormonts and Hornwoods (later, House Arryn and Royce) to fight against their opponents during the brutal battle.
After opening the gates and being riddled by arrows and bolts, Wun Wun kneels to rest his wounds. As Jon tried to comfort him, Ramsay Bolton fired his arrow towards Wun Wun's eye, killing him.
It is unknown if Wun Wun is the last of his kind, although some wight giants were seen in the beginning of Season 7.
Notes[]
- Although the character died in the TV canon, he remains alive in the novels.
- Wun Wun's name is based after Phil Simms, a quarterback for the New York Giants who wore #11, whose author George R. R. Martin is a fan of.
